STIR family: STIR 2.4/STIR 1.8/STIR 1.8HP/STIR 1.2 (SPG-501, SPG-503)
One of the threats faced by warships is the small, high-speed antiship missile. The size and speed of this threat demand precise and immediate action, which is often impeded by clutter or jamming. Thales Naval Nederland's Tracking and Illumination Radar system STIR provides the timely detection, accurate information, and appropriate weapon control needed to counter such a threat.
With different dish sizes, different transmitter powers and using different combinations of RF-bands, a dedicated, self-contained STIR subsystem can be provided for each type of naval combat system / platform.
STIR (in the basic version with I- and K-band transceivers and Continuous Wave Illumination) automatically acquires and tracks even the smallest, fastest targets.
In addition, the K-band in particular guarantees optimal defence against sea-skimming missiles. Target engagement is further maximized by simultaneous control facilities for both semi-active homing missiles (e.g. Seasparrow, Aspide, ESSM, SM1, SM2) as well as small-to-large calibre guns.
For upgrade and ship-life-extension-programs (SLEP), a solid state transmitter, new tracking algorithms and display aids are available.
