Today's typical warships are cluttered by communications antennas needed to transmit and receive ever-growing volumes of messages. As a consequence, interference associated with the dense electromagnetic environment has become a routine problem.
The Integrated Communication Antenna System (ICAS)offers an innovative and scalable solution. ICAS is based on a staring antenna array's that provides full transmission and receiving functionality for a wide range of communications equipment. The antenna array panel set is mounted flat in the sides of an Integrated Mast structure. With each ICAS panel set covering a 90-degree sector, full 360-degree coverage can be achieved by combining four panel sets. Behind the four sets of antenna array panels, ICAS features a Transceiver Combiner and Distribution Unit. That serves as a multi-coupler through which the ship's communications systems can access the antennas simultaneously.
ICAS is independent of the brand(s) of the radio subsystems. ICAS supports a variety of simultaneous communications applications, including:
- Maritime line-of-sight VHF communications
- Maritime line-of-sight UHF communications
- Aeronautical VHF/UHF services
- Automatic Identification System AIS
- Data links as: Link-Y, Link-11, Link-22 and Link-16
- International Maritime Mobile
- GSM/UMTS mobile telephone
Furthermore, ICAS supports direction finding and Communications ESM.
