Sea Master 400 (Smile) is a non-rotating 250 km Volume Search Radar in E/F-band (or S-band). The system refines Thales well-known multi-beam and Doppler processing principles of APAR and the Smart radar family. Sea Master 400 simultaneously provides the required air surveillance, helicopter control, surface surveillance and weapon control functions. Sea Master 400 is ideally suited for installation in an integrated mast structure.
The system has been designed for the defence against asymmetrical threats. The four-face, active solid-state phased array radar system provides reliable target data at short as well as long range. Because of its high update rate compared to rotating radars, Sea Master 400 can produce very accurate track data, eliminating the need for additional tracking radars.
Each antenna face covers a sector of 120°with multiple stacked beams vertical, to simultaneously cover the full elevation volume between 0°and 70°. The azimuth sector is scanned with this stack. The radar intermittently schedules beams and waveforms for long-range surveillance, medium-range surveillance and helicopter/UAV guidance, but presents the associated tracks to the operator seamless and simultaneously. This provides the operator with situational awareness out to 250 km, critical awareness out to 150 km and helicopter/UAV guidance functionality, without the need to switch between radar modes. That offers an unrivalled operational advantage: the closer the object comes, the higher the update rate.
