Sirius is a bi-spectral (3-5 and 8-10 µm) Long Range InfraRed Search and Track system. Sirius' primary function is to contribute to Local Area Defence as well as to the ship's self defence. Sirius plays a vital role in the defence against the supersonic and subsonic sea skimming missile threat.
Sirius' unsurpassed sensitivity and resolution invite for many other tasks, e.g. multi-spectral observation of coastal areas, contribution to Theatre Ballistic Missile Defence, floating mine detection, against asymmetric tactics such as piracy and insurgency and Search and Rescue missions.
Sirius can be fully integrated and real-time adapted to its role in a multi-sensor suite, but can also function as stand-alone sensor with direct connections to a weapon control chain.
If restricted use of radar emissions is required and under radar interference and ECM conditions, Sirius will provide adequate detection capability against a supersonic and stealth anti-ship missile threat. Sirius has all weather capability due to the simultaneous MWIR- and LWIR-band operation.
