Mode-S and Mode-5 Positive IFF response is and will be the main source for Identification Friend or Foe.
The NR-IFF (Non Rotating IFF) uses a circular monopulse array allowing electronic scan. The dwell time can be optimised to allow for full capability of the new IFF operational modes. The use of monopulse reduces the number of interrogations required for accurate azimuth measurement. Garble is reduced by selective interrogation as possible with either Mode S or Mode 5.
The antenna system consists of four glass fibre radomes covered circular monopulse antenna array's. Each array has two omni channels for use by the IFF transponder and for Link-16 transmissions.
Due to the modular design concept the antenna system can be applied in quite different mast concepts.
